Do dnešních dob se však Dietrichsteinovi dosud nedostalo kritické a vědecké biografie, což je dáno především stavu zachování početného archivního materiálu spojeného s jeho osobou, rozptýleného po celé Evropě a navíc zachovaného diskontinuálně. Disertační práce je zaměřena na poznání nejvyšší roviny Dietrichsteinovy církevní existence, jíž je jeho kardinálská hodnost a z ní vyplývající vztahy s římskou kurií, a především jejich prostřednící, agenti v celé Itálii, mezi nimiž vyniká především postava římského agenta Jacoma Olivieriho a je  |% cze 
520 2 9 |a Cardinal Francis Dietrichstein (1575-1636), one of the key figures in Central Europe in the first decades of the 17th century, was a versatile person. As Cardinal and the Bishop of Olomouc he influenced the development of the peak period of confessionalization in Central Europe not only in the religious and ecclesiastical field but also in the political, military, and cultural field. He was one of the initiators of the cultural transfer and of the bloom of the first blossoms of the modern protobaroque culture in Moravia. Until now Dietrichstein has not been given any critical or scientific biography. This is mainly caused by the state of the preservation of the archival materials connected with this person, which are spread all over Europe and which are of a very sparse character, as well. This doctoral thesis deals with the highest level of Dietrichstein’s religious existence: his cardinalship and his rapports with the Roman Curia and its intermediaries (agents) throughout Italy.
