Aktivnímu a postupně i programovému sbírání uměleckých děl se Dvořák věnoval v relativně krátkém mezidobí v letech 1937-1947. Během tohoto desetiletí získal přibližně 80 soch, přes 100 obrazů a množství kreseb, akvarelů a grafických listů. Dvořák ovšem nebyl pouze sběratel, ale hrál také důležitou roli mecenáše a podporovatele umělců. Zprostředkováním setkání různých autorů se pak aktivně podílel na formování nových myšlenek a přístupů reagujících na proměny dobového kulturního a společensko-politického klimatu. Politické události roku 1948 měly dalekosáhlé důsledky jak pro stavitelskou tak i sběratelskou činnost Václava Dvořáka. Jeho firma byla záhy znárodněna a později byl ve vykonstruovaném procesu odsouzen do vězení a téměř celá jeho sbírka přešla do rukou státu. Po návratu z vězení pracoval Dvořák dál ve stavebnictví až do pozdního důchodového věku. P.  |% cze 
520 2 9 |a The thesis deals with the personality of a great architect Václav Dvořák, who lived in Brno between 1900-1984. Dvořák collected works of art actively in a relatively short period between 1937-1947. During this period he gained about 80 statues, more than 100 paintings and plenty of drawings, water-colours and art prints. Dvořák was not only a collector, he was also very important as a patron who supported artists. He arranged meetings of artists and thus took an active part in forming new ideas and approaches reacting to the changes of the sociopolitical climate of the time. The politial events of 1948 had far-reaching consequences on Dvořáks activities, both in architecture and collecting. His company was soon nationalized and later he was put in prison after a trumped-up trial. Nearly all his collection was confiscated by the state. Having left the prison, Dvořák continued working in building industries until late retirement age. He did not live to see the collapse of the communist.  |9 eng
