Své kroky přitom směřujeme především ke zhodnocení pozice Hladíkovy tvorby v dobovém literárním dění a její konfrontaci s paralelně, ale i dále se vyvíjejícím pohledem literární vědy. Vedle toho mapujeme autorovy životní osudy či poukazujeme na možné cesty k dalšímu bádání v dané oblasti. Václav Hladík patří mezi osobnosti spjaté s dobou fin de siècle. Ač již za svého života byl mnohdy vnímán velmi rozporuplně, přesto pokládáme za překvapivé, jak mu v pozdější době kritika tak málo věnovala pozornost. Mimo několika dobových studií jeho obdivovatelů chybí jakákoli šířeji koncipovaná odborná práce zabývající se jeho osobností a tvorbou. Naše práce by z předešlých důvodů měla přispět k rozšíření znalostí o daném autorovi a jeho činnosti. Je strukturována do tří částí. V té první shrnujeme dosavadní vědění k Hladíkově biografii a rozšiřujeme je o některá relevantní fakta. Ve druhé  |% cze 
520 2 9 |a The writings of Václav Hladík, a writer closely connected with the Czech fin de siècle period, received contradictory critical reception during his lifetime. It is, however, very surprising how little attention later critics and literary historians paid to the corpus of his work. Apart from a few peer reviews and papers written by Hladík's admirers, there is virtually no complex account of his life and work. In this dissertation, I seek to make up for the lack of scholarly interest in Václav Hladík and to provide a complex interpretation of his writings. My primary focus is their position in the literature of the period, as well as their interaction with both the then and later literary criticism. To be successful in broadening the scholarly reception of Václav Hladík's writings and activities, such an analysis also needs to include a close look at his life and suggestions for further research.
