| Shrnutí: | Tato disertační práce je sociolingvistickou studií veřejné televizní debaty v americké angličtině, která se zabývá zkoumáním vztahu mezi pohlavím mluvčích a jejich tendencí používat během promluvy přednostně určitou jazykovou funkci. Hypotézy této práce směřují hlavní oblasti analýzy ke zkoumaní ve dvou úrovních. Na úrovni jazykové výpovědi jako celku jsou zkoumány závislosti mezi promluvou žen a užíváním expresívní jazkové funkce a mezi promluvou mužů a tendencí k využití referenční jazykové funkce. Na úrovni výběru jednotlivých slov se práce zaměřuje na to, zda-li existuje rozdíl mezi ženami a muži v tom, s jakou částí obecenstva a v jaké míře navazují prostřednictvím jazyka kontakt. Analýza promluvy uvedené v této disertační práci je založená na vlastním transkribovaném textu televizní debaty na politické téma a kombinuje sociolingvistické, semantické a pragmatické postupy jazykového rozboru. Na úrovni promluvy jako celku vychází předkládaná analýza především z teorie řečových aktů This dissertation is a sociolinguistic study of a public television debate in American English which examines a connection between the speakers’ gender and their inclination to use a particular language function in the studied discourse. Hypotheses formulated in this thesis direct the analysis towards two lines of investigation. On the level of utterances, the relationship between the language performances of women and the use of the expressive / affective language function is examined as well as the relationship between the language performances of men and the tendency to use the referential function. On the level of words, focus is placed on differences between men and women regarding how often and with what part of the audience they establish and sustain contact through the means of language.
