Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. První se zabývá teoretickým ukotvením kolektivního traumatu. To je nejdříve představeno obecně, následně se práce věnuje dvěma názorovým proudům - Alexanderovi a jeho kolegům definujícím kolektivní trauma jako kulturně konstruovaný proces, v němž hrají zásadní roli kolektivní paměť a kolektivní identita a dále proudu reprezentovanému Piotrem Sztompkou, který trauma vnímá jako sociální změnu. Druhá část práce aplikuje definované koncepty na americkou společnost po teroristických útocích z 11. září. Cílem analytické části je popsat změny v americké společnosti po 11. září a odpovědět tak na základní otázky, zda v americké společnosti došlo v důsledku útoků z 11. září ke kolektivnímu traumatu a pokud ano, jak se toto konkrétní trauma projevilo. 520 2 9 |a The main purposes of this thesis are: to introduce the sociological concept of collective trauma, and to apply this concept on the American society during the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Therefore, this thesis is divided into two parts. First is aimed at the theoretical background of collective trauma. Collective trauma is presented from two different views: as a culturally constructed process, in which collective identity and collective memory play important part, and also as a trauma of social change defined by Sztompka. Subsequent part applies previously defined concepts on the American society after the 9/11. In this part, the main purpose of the thesis is to decide whether the ongoing change in the American society that has been started by the terrorist attacks embodied symptoms of collective trauma, and if so, what was the nature of those symptoms.
