Shrnutí: | Bakalářská práce se zabývá významem jihoafrických townships a jejich vlivem na politický, kulturní a společenské život v JAR v minulosti i dnes. The aim of my thesis, which focuses on South African townships, is to show the townships’ influence on the political, social and cultural life of South Africa. First, an overview of segregationist and racist policies, from the Dutch rule, the British colonial era and the Union of South Africa, is presented. The following chapter discusses the establishment of townships in the pre-apartheid period and various aspects of life in townships during the apartheid regime (forced removals, violence, appalling living conditions etc.) as well as in the post-apartheid era. The last chapter demonstrates the impact of townships on South African culture via analyzing novels written by two eminent township writers: Mongane Serote’s To Every Birth Its Blood and Richard Rive’s ‘Buckingham Palace,’ District Six. |
