Shrnutí:The aim of my thesis is to explore what the social and political situation in India in the colonial period was like and what influence it had on its native and British inhabitants. My thesis mainly aims at picturing the British colonization of India in its last period of the 1940s. I try to examine the relations between the British and Indian people and focus on the most important events in India in the 1940s, the closing years of the British rule. As my primary source I chose the novel by Paul Scott, “The Jewel in the Crown” (1966).
