Pojem genocida se objevuje po druhé světové válce. Je chápána jako plánovaná a řízená snaha o likvidaci národní, náboženské nebo rasové skupiny. K holocaustu došlo v moderní společnosti na vrcholu jejího vývoje. Byly během něho použity nejmodernější technologie, vyspělý byrokratický aparát a nové vědecké znalosti. Mezi genocidami v minulosti a v moderní době můžeme najít několik rozdílů. Případy v moderní době jsou spojeny především s rozšířením určité ideologie. Holocaust nebyl pouze židovskou tragedií, ale zasáhl celou společnost. Pomocí analýzy změn, jimiž prošla moderní společnost, jsou popsány nové mechanismy působící ve společnosti, na základě nichž došlo ke vzniku holocaustu.  |% cze

The term genocide arised after the World War II. It means the coordinated and planned annihilation of a national, religious, or racial group. The holocaust occured in the modern society at the apex of its development. In the course of holocaust the state-of-the-art technologies were used as well as a sophisticated bureaucratic apparatus and brand new scientific knowledge. A couple of differences among the genocides in the past and in the modern times can be found. The instances of the modern age are tied with, pre-eminently, proliferation of an ideology. Holocaust was not only jewish tragedy, it hitted the entire society. An analysis of changes which modern society underwent describes new mechanism.  |9 eng
